The Grand Départ created an incredible atmosphere across Denmark

The three Danish stages of the Tour de France attracted massive crowds wherever the peloton came while television viewers in nearly 190 countries were shown beautiful pictures of cities, landscapes and tourist attractions in Denmark.

Occasionally you had to pinch yourself in the arm during the three stages of Tour de France in Denmark. All along the route an exceptional number of spectators turned up to celebrate the race. A festive and intense atmosphere throughout every city and town were pivotal in making the Grand Départ a success.

The time trial on stage 1 in Copenhagen, the world’s best cycling city, started off in wet conditions, men ended in a historic celebration in the streets of the Danish capital.

Stage 2 from Roskilde to Nyborg took the peloton through 202 kilometers of beautiful landscapes and rolling hills before the final challenge on the Great Belt Bridge.

Stage 3 from Vejle to Sønderborg turned out to be a one man show with the great Dane Magnus Cort starring in front of massive crowds before the hectic sprint final in Sønderborg.

The stages conclude the Danish Grand Départ 2022. Police and other authorities in Denmark reports no major negative incidents in traffic or in any spectator behavior. On top of that thousands of volunteers helped make to whole event a safe and happy one for everyone.

Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, chairman of Grand Départ Copenhagen Denmark and Lord Mayor in Copenhagen, states:

- We love cycling, and we love the Tour de France in Denmark – og we showed that to the world. There was a unique support in the streets and along the roads, so even the French organizers could see, that all of Denmark had turned up. From the team presentation to the finish line in Sønderborg the atmosphere was incredible and gave med the goosebumps.
